What it tests
- The spill bucket sits around each tank’s fill pipe.
- It catches fuel when the driver unhooks the hose.

How the tech does it
- Empties and cleans the bucket, then looks for cracks.
- Fills it with water and marks the level.
- Waits at least 1 hour.
- Passes if the water drops less than 1/8 inch.
- Some techs use a vacuum test instead.
When it’s due
- Federal rule: every 3 years.
- Double-wall, gap checked monthly: no test needed.
- Texas: every 3 years.
- Florida: single-wall every 12 months.

- Texas: clear out liquid or debris within 96 hours.
- Florida: clear out fuel, or water over 1 inch, in 72 hours.
Keep the report

If it fails
- Repair or replace the bucket, then retest within 30 days.
